Santa Barbara, California - Facts & Figures
Santa Barbara, California is located in the space between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Because the climate of the city is similar to that of the Mediterranean, Santa Barbara is known as the "American Riviera." The city was given its name by Sebastian Vizcaino in 1602; he was an explorer who landed there and named it to give thanks to that patron saint for allowing him to survive a great storm during his journey.
