Brockton, Massachusetts is about 25 miles south of the state capital and is often called the "City of Champions." It is the native city of both former undefeated heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano and former middleweight boxing champion Marvin Hagler. Brockton is also home to the first electrically operated fire station in 1884. The city was first to feature a department store Santa Claus in December 1890. In November of 2011, Brockton set the world record for most Santa Hat wearers in one place at one time with 1,792 people participating. Brockton has three hospitals, three library buildings and is a city known for its higher education. Brockton was named one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People in the United States in 2005, 2008, 2010, and 2011 by America's Promise Alliance.
