Hanover is a mostly residential town and home to the Hanover Mall and the New England Football League (NEFL). The town was originally a farming town, and later it became the site of tack factories and shoe factories. Hanover is the site of the invention of the first tack-making machine, making tacks and fireworks. George Washington Carver lived in a small cabin for a few months on the North River in Hanover while he worked on his autobiography.
