Aurora, Colorado - Facts & Figures
Aurora, CO has half the population of Denver, is bigger than Denver in land area, and is in 3rd place as far as population in all of Colorado. Despite this, many people still think of Aurora as "only a suburb" of Denver. The reasons for this are that there is still a lot of undeveloped space in the city and that there is no downtown business district. Army hospitals have been in operation in the area since the early 1900s and became even more prominent during WWII. Army Air Corps established Buckley Field, which, though it has had many names, is still the home of the 460th Space Wing and the 140th Wing Colorado Air National Guard, and Aurora's best employer. The beauty of all the undeveloped space in Aurora is that it has created room for parks, natural spaces, golf courses, and wildlife habitats.
