Londonderry, New Hampshire - Facts & Figures
Londonderry, New Hampshire is bordered on the north by the city of Manchester and on the east by the town of Derry. The area it occupies was originally known as "Nutfield," because of the amount of nut trees there. The town was first settled by immigrants from Ireland who left their homes in the Irish town of Londonderry. They chose to name their new home the same, desiring a similar town, but without the religious persecution from which they had fled.
Londonderry to this day is known for its beautiful apple orchards, which are also an important part of the town's economy. Many of Londonderry's biggest companies are farms and orchards, such as Mack's Apples, Sunnycrest Farm, Elwood Orchards, and Woodmont Orchards. The more urban section of Londonderry, and the home to most of the non-farming businesses, is the north side of town near the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
