Binghamton, New York is located at the junction of the Susquehanna and the Chenango rivers and is the seat of justice for Broome County. Prior to the Revolutionary War, the land area was occupied by Native Americans, but during the war, they were removed and the town established. Later, a canal was built in Binghamton to connect to the Erie canal. This brought residents (mostly immigrants) to the area and increased Binghamton's shipping and manufacturing industries.
