Islip is a hamlet within the much larger Town of Islip in Suffolk County, New York. A very old hamlet on the South Shore of Long Island, Islip was established in 1680 by William Nicoll, and named after his ancestral home in England. Because of its position on Great South Bay, Islip makes activity and economy in partnership with the water. You can find residents and visitors fishing, clamming, swimming, boating and enjoying public bathing beaches. Yachting has also become popular with the town's proximity to Fire Island. Islip Hamlet is known for its small-town charm and amenities such as antiquing in the quaint shopping district, parades and festivals on Main Street, and weekly Farmer's Markets.
