Skaneateles is a small town set on a 16-mile portion of one of the cleanest lakes in the country. It's name is an Iroquois word meaning "long lake." Life and fun are centered around the lake and community in Skaneateles. Residents and visitors come here for a quiet, wholesome escape, with amenities such as parks, jogging paths, playgrounds, tennis, ice skating and hockey on the lake, or strolling along the pier. Skaneateles hosts weekly musical performances throughout the summer, as well a Christmas Dickens production, and the Skaneateles Antique and Classic Boat Show. In the historic downtown district, antique shops and art galleries make their homes in restored buildings, some built as long ago as 1796.
