Stony Brook, New York is located on the North Shore of Long Island and located close to other destinations such as Fire Island, the Hamptons and the vineyards at East End. It is about 60 miles east of Manhattan and 60 miles west of Montauk Point. Its founder, Ward Melville, had the goal of creating the perfect New England-style village, which can still be seen in the architecture and town shops. Made up of three villages, Stony Brook, Old Field and Setauket, the area is home to Stony Brook University, the island's largest employer.
