Wappinger Falls is a small village named for a section of a nearby creek, which was named for a Native American people, and is located in Dutchess County, New York. Wappinger Falls divides Wappinger and Poughkeepsie. It is home to Grinnel Library, New York's 6th oldest library. It is a very old village dating back to a time when the land was only inhabited by migrating tribes. The Wappinger people were a loose association of tribes who spoke Algonkian.
