It is 30 miles south of Cleveland, and 20 miles west of Akron, and so shares their economic and entertainment environments. Many residents work in one of those areas, giving Medina a suburb status. Medina was founded in 1818, was part of the Connecticut Western Reserve, and populated predominantly by farmers. It began growing with the finished Ohio and Erie Canals, enabling Medina to transport its agricultural goods.
