Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has been called "the smoky city" due to all its factories and their smokestacks. In recent decades, however, Pittsburgh has issued air quality laws, stream purification laws, and torn down and recreated many of these sooty areas. Now the city located on the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers is an up-to-date cohesive mix of parks, skyscrapers, fountains, bridges and neighborhoods. Pittsburgh has used its 70 miles of riverfront property to produce urban housing, commerce and tourism. The city has transformed itself into a leader in science and technology, even ranked one of the top technology markets by the Wall Street Journal. President George W. Bush called Pittsburgh "Knowledge Town" because of the intelligence and planning it has taken to change the trajectory of the city. A few major motion pictures have been filmed in Pittsburgh, including Angels in the Outfield, Night of the Living Dead, Flashdance, and The Silence of the Lambs.
