Spartanburg, SC is part of the Upstate - a 10-county region about 100 miles from Columbia and 80 miles west of Charlotte. This geographic piedmont was originally a hunting ground for the Catawba and Cherokee tribes, partially due to the natural landscapes. Spartanburg is home to Lawson’s Fork Creek, the Cottonwood Trail, Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve, and the Walnut Grove Plantation. Hampton Heights Historic District is Spartanburg's oldest intact downtown neighborhood, which includes many Queen Anne and Neoclassical homes.
