Burlington is the largest city in Alamance and Guilford counties. Burlington was best known for its textile industry. Textile mills were introduced around the area by the Holt family as part of the city's economic base for quite some time. The North Carolina Railroad was also built around Burlington for transportation uses. Later, the city grew with its shops and famous parks such as Joe Davidson Park and Burlington City Park, which have a wide variety of recreational activities.
